Badge Machines & Parts

Q1: I've got parts leftover but no film. Am I missing film?
A1: Many of our parts will include up to 2% surplus because they are weighed.
But some parts will be exact because they are counted. Due to this difference,
you will usually end up with some leftover parts.
Please refer to the reverse of the invoice included with your order for more information.
If you have some leftover parts, you can order individual components from the "Component Badge Parts" product category.

Q2: Why is my machine producing some defective badges?
A2: The most common problem is misplacement of parts in the machine or else inserting multiple parts (for example 2 shells). Please be careful to place only one of each component in the machine and be sure that the artwork and film is laying flat.
If you suspect your badge machine might be broken, please visit the troubleshooting guide.

Q3: What is the lifespan of a machine, how many badges can I make?
A3: Badge-Man.Net badge machines are the highest quality American-made machines available. It's possible to make thousands of badges. Be sure to read through the manual included with the machine. If you follow the simple maintenance instructions, it will last you for years. For more information on maintenance, please see the troubleshooting guide.

Q4: Do you rent badge-making machines?
A4: Sorry, we don't currently rent machines.

Q5: What paper and printer should I use?
A5: Inkjet paper, laser printer paper, or regular copy paper will all work.
(57mm photo cutter, 76mm photo cutter, and the 53x78mm Rec. machines can use photo paper)
We recommend a paper thickness of 0.1mm - 0.15mm.

Q6: Will Badge-Man.Net parts work in my machine that I bought elsewhere?
A6: There are many badge machine brands and sizes, so it's difficult to say. You could order a free sample here, and try to make a badge in your machine. Please be aware that we can't be responsible if our parts damage or cause any problem with your machine.

Q7: Can I buy badge parts without the pins inserted?
A7: Yes, we do have the individual components available on the site.
Please click "Component badge Parts"in the category menu, select your desired size, then order the individual components.

Q8: Can I buy badge parts set without the film?
A8: Yes, we do have the individual components available on the site.
Please click "Component badge Parts"in the category menu, select your desired size, then order the individual components.

Q9: Can I cut fabric and make fabric buttons with Badge-Man.Net machines?
A9:Characteristics of the fabric would determine whether you could make a badge. However, our machines are designed to be used with paper, so using them on other materials would be outside the warranty. Our site CraftMonkey.net, offers fabric buttons and a press machine that is more suitable for fabric.

Q10: What's the difference between a photo cutter and a normal cutter?
A10: With the photo cutter, you can use high quality photographic paper to make badges.

The 57mm photo cutter creates a slightly smaller circle (56.515mm diameter) than the normal cutter (66.67mm). Because the photo paper is so thick, it does not wrap completely around the badge. Instead, it covers slightly more than the face of the badge leaving a small 2mm band of metal shell visible along the side. From the front of the badge there is no difference.

The 76mm photo badge machine has a slightly larger upper die so that it can accommodate thicker paper. The normal paper and photo paper both wrap completely around the badge. The cutter is the same, regardless of whether you are making badges with normal paper or photo paper.

The 53x78mm Rectangle has:
  • both a photo and normal cutter
  • both a photo and normal badge machine
  • both photo and normal film
Because the photo paper is thicker and there are square corners, the film must be slightly larger to cover the badges. The badge machine has a slightly larger upper die to accommodate the thicker paper, and the cutter cuts a slightly larger graphic.

Q11: Do I have to buy a separate machine for each badge size?
A11: Yes, each badge machine produces one size. However, each size badge machine can produce several products.

Our badge machines do not have a die swapping capability. Machines with die swapping capabilities are typically not very stable and are prone to break-down. Badge-Man.Net machines on the other hand, are extremely solid and rarely break-down. Also, having a single unstable machine for producing several sizes could be a significant problem for your badge-making operation if it were to fail.

Q12: We have multiple shops so can you divide up my large order of parts?
A12: Larger quantities are cheaper because we don't have to repack parts into smaller units. So we usually do not divide up parts.
However, if you do require this service, depending on the parts we can probably assist you (there may be a service fee). Please contact us with your requirements.

Q13: What materials are the metal badge parts made of?
A13: They are made of steel alloy.

Q14: Where are the machines and parts made?
A14: All professional badge machines and cutters are made in the USA.

Q15: How should I store my unused parts?
A15: The parts will begin to oxidize unless properly sealed with a moisture absorbent pack.

Q16: If my badge machine breaks, can it be repaired?
A16: All of our professional badge machines and cutters include a 1 year limited warranty. If your machine fails during this period we will repair or replace the machine free of charge. (Please note that the customer must pay to ship the product to us, we will pay to ship it back).

Q17: What is the target age of badge-making machines?
A17: Our machines are not toys. The target age is 12+.

Q18: What kinds of badge-making sets are available?
A18: We have several sets for getting started. Each set contains a professional badge machine, cutter, and parts.

The three kinds sets are Save Value Set, Junior Set, and Mini Set.
The difference between these sets is the cutter and the number of parts.

Cutter: Professional Cutter (Save Value Set)
Parts: 250

Cutter: Stand Cutter (Junior Set)
Parts: 250

Cutter: Hand Punch Cutter (Mini Set)
Parts: 250

Safety pin and clip & pin parts set are also available.

Q19: I'd like to make 44mm key-holders and straps, is there a set of parts available?
A19: There is currently no set for these, but the components can be ordered individually.
For 44mm key-holders, visit 44mm Components Badge Parts, order the shells, key-holder backs, and key-holder tabs. Don't forget the 44mm film!

For 44mm straps, visit 44mm Components Badge Parts, order shells, key-holder backs, tab & c-ring sets, straps, and finally 44mm film.

It's also possible to make ball-chains and charms, these parts can also be found in the product category "Accessories". All of these products can also be made for the 57mm size. For more information, please see 44mm key-holders, 44mm straps.

Q20: The Glue Dot is slightly larger than the tie tack, is there some way to deal with the excess? Also, it is still sticky, will that dry?
A20:Glue dots are a gel and do not dry in the same way as regular glue.
Also, because they are a gel, they are suited to items with little movement such as magnets.
When applying the glue dot to a smaller object, such as the tie tack, you can fold the edge slightly so that they will not be exposed after completion.
